The cruise led us from Boston, MA to Portland, ME. I visited Maine before as a child and all I remember is eating lobster and touching the cold Atlantic Ocean water. Portland, now one of my favorite cities, is incredibly charming!
My mom and I left the ship and walked to a knitting shop called KnitWit Yarn Shop. After visiting the yarn shop, we ventured back toward the dock because we had a tour to catch to visit Portland Head Light. On our way back to the cruise ship, we stopped at The Holy Donut. We ordered a couple of donuts (chocolate sea salt and apple crumb), hashbrowns, and apple cider. Everything we got there was so good!
After shopping and eating, we returned to the dock to board a bus headed to Portland Head Light. Portland Head Light is a historic lighthouse located in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. The lighthouse was first lit in 1791 and is the oldest lighthouse in Maine. Fun fact: it's one of the most photographed lighthouses in the United States.
First, we drove around Portland, learning some history, and then arrived at the lighthouse. I'm obsessed with lighthouses so I was excited to see this one. Sadly, you couldn't go inside the lighthouse as you can at others, but the exterior was beautiful, surrounded by autumn foliage. There was an ice cream cart there and even though it was cold, I got an affogato, which was pretty good.
After venturing through Portland, we ended up back at the dock and it was time to get on the ship. Our next stop was New Brunswick, Canada!
