In 2023, according to data from the U.S. Department of Agricultural Statistics Service, Iowa farmers cultivated approximately 2.4 billion bushels of corn for grain across an area of 12.9 million acres. Iowa is the highest producer of corn in the U.S., producing more corn than some countries.

My experience in Iowa was not related to corn, although I did see soooo much corn during our midwest road trip. On our trip, we drove up to Hamburg, Iowa. Nestled in this town of less than 1,000 people is Stoner Drug, which first opened in 1896. Pharmacist Cosby Stoner established the drug store in a now-demolished building situated two blocks away from its present location. The store has been situated in its current spot since the 1950s. Inside it looks pretty much like a normal pharmacy except there's an old soda fountain in the middle. So you can pick up some snacks and a milkshake while you wait for your prescription to be filled. Some of the nicest people we've met were in Stoner Drug, I definitely recommend checking it out if you're in Iowa.
